Instruction

 (Given in the summer only when demand warrants it.)

Requirements -  An Applicant Must:

a) be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or a person lawfully admitted to Canada for flight training.
b) be 14 years of age prior to solo, and 16 prior to the issue of a license, but may begin instruction at any age.
c) sign a declaration of good health, or undergo a medical examination by a Transport Canada approved examiner. This medical is valid for 5 years.
d) write a Pre-Solo Exam on Air Regs, Air Navigation Orders, Air Traffic Rules and Procedures, Information Circulars, Notams, basic aerodynamics, weather & stall recovery. You may take this exam at Tomvale.
e) have a minimum of 10 hours flight time, including 5 hours dual and 2 hours solo, with 30 full circuits, including 10 circuits solo.
f) take a flight test, demonstrating the skill to fly the aircraft. This test may be taken at Tomvale.
g) take a ground school course and write a written exam at Transport Canada, but will be given all possible questions beforehand.
h) if a person has held a pilot's licence the times are reduced, and must write only one exam.

  1. Add 8 hours of flight time for instruction on a tail dragger, and add 4 hours of ground time if a Restricted Radio Licence is desired.
  2. With an Ultralight License, the requirements for the Private Pilot Licence are reduced by 10 flight hours. You may also use 25 hours of Ultralight time towards the Commercial Pilot's License.
  3. An Ultralight License allows you to fly any Ultralight during the day, in visual flight conditions. You may only carry passengers with a Commercial Ultra-Light Licence which requires 50 hours of flight time, or with the new Passenger Carrying Rating.

Personal Pilot Log Book, VNC Air Chart, Ultralight Information Manual, (TP4310E), Training Syllabus, From the Ground Up, Radio Operator's Certificate, Study guide, 'test' Software Package, Protractor & Rule, Tomvale Radio Procedures Guide.
